Designers are experiencing a touch of nostalgia, rekindling long forgotten student memories with quirky school stripes and boyish blazers scoring top marks on the catwalks. We owe the emergence of the new cool status brought to nerd-chic to Ugly Betty, where her devastatingly frumpy blouses and skirts combos revealed themselves to be cool in a kooky light as the series progressed. I’m certain many of you recoiled in disgust at the sight of her pale blue, exceedingly long puffer jacket that resembled a sleeping bag more than a winter coat. Nevertheless, padded jackets are among those fashion-forward parkas and trenches on the winter coat wish lists. The trend for college cool doesn’t stop there. As jodhpurs were strutting down the catwalk, they tended to be teamed with a well-cut boyish blazer with the obligatory school stripe leading round the outside hem of the jacket. Balenciaga in particular favoured this look and displayed some the finest jackets.
We went hot footing it around to bring you the best of the boy blazer looks from Steal to Spree… Indulge in tailored cuts!
